Mediation Skills Program
The process of mediation is an exciting and dynamic one. It requires us to resolve occurrences of conflict when the parties involved understand each other’s position accurately. They are willing to discuss it, because they want to resolve the conflict, regardless of their disagreements. As seen in the definition of conflict, there is often a power struggle, with both parties wanting to be the winner. This is a destructive approach, which does not facilitate the resolution process. Resolution occurs only when the parties try to reach mutually satisfying solutions.
Definitions of Conflict
Conflict is the behaviour of one person, which inhibits, stops, blocks or interferes with the behaviour of another. We are all unique individuals with different needs and goals. In our interaction with different people, some needs and goals correspond, but in other cases they may differ. These differences initiate conflict.
Goals for the Program
- Identifying the different types and causes of conflicts at the workplace.
- Transforming conflicts into positive outcomes.
- Applying different approaches in conflict situations.
- Effectively managing all relationships so as to avoid conflict.
